Mirazo Tray

One piece of Wood. Carved into everything a surface needs.
There are trays that hold things and there are trays that hold them beautifully — that bring the warmth of honest material, the considered form of a piece designed rather than merely made, and the particular pleasure of a surface that rewards the hand as much as the eye. Mirazo was carved from that intention. A single piece of solid wood shaped into an asymmetric composition of two levels — a generous upper surface and a recessed oval tray below — with a circular lobe extending from the lower right, sized precisely for a tealight, a small vessel, or the object that deserves its own considered home. The grain of the wood flows continuously across every level and every curve, making the tray as beautiful empty as it is styled.
Wood carries the warmth and distinctive grain of honest Indian timber to a tray that is as much a sculptural object as a functional one — the deep polish drawing out the reddish warmth of the wood in a way that makes every surface of the Mirazo catch the light differently through the day. The two-level form gives the tray the considered organisation of a piece that thinks about how objects are actually placed and used — the recessed area containing, the upper surface displaying, the circular holder completing. A tray designed in India, for the home that understands no surface is too small to deserve the most considered making.
