Canto Lounge Chair

The chair where two materials found each other. And the room found its centre.
There are lounge chairs where the upholstery is a single decision and there are lounge chairs where two materials are in such considered conversation that the chair becomes more interesting wherever they meet. The Canto was designed around that meeting. A generous barrel body in glacier grey linen — cool, calm, and enveloping — carries a continuous cognac leatherite rail that sweeps from the backrest top, curves in a flowing S-form around and beneath each arm, and disappears at the seat base — the uninterrupted line of warm cognac defining every exterior edge of the grey body like the binding on a beautifully made book. The two materials meet at the top of the backrest in a clean, considered seam — the grey giving way to the cognac at exactly the right moment — and the meeting of the two colours gives the chair its most beautiful angle, the one where the warmth of the cognac makes the grey appear more serene and the grey makes the cognac appear more luminous.
A white ash wood disc base grounds the entire piece at the floor — the natural timber in the same warm family as the cognac rail, completing the material composition from base to backrest with the honest warmth of real wood. Glacier grey linen gives the interior surfaces the calm, considered texture of a fabric chosen for how it feels through the long afternoon. A lounge chair designed in India, for the home that understands the most considered rooms are always the ones with a chair that makes two materials feel like they were always meant to be in conversation — and that conversation was always worth sitting inside.
