Kristy Lounge chair

The chair that wove India’s craft heritage into its arms.
There are lounge chairs where the arms are incidental and there are lounge chairs where the arms are the entire story. The Kristy was designed to make the arms the story. A continuous sand powder coated tubular frame sweeps from the legs through the backrest sides, curves forward into generous armrests, and loops back to the floor — the architectural, rounded form creating a considered double frame on each side within which dense natural cord is woven in tight vertical ribs, the fibre filling every opening between the metal bars with the tactile warmth of Indian basket-making and rope-craft tradition. Cognac leatherite wraps the seat and backrest in the generous, honest warmth of a material chosen for depth and comfort — the warm earth tone making the natural cord appear more luminous and the sand metal frame appear more considered.
The cord panels are the Kristy’s heart — the woven detail that connects this lounge chair to the craft traditions of Indian making, to the tightly bound fibres of handwork that has always found beauty in repetition and material honesty. Sand powder coat gives the continuous tubular frame the warm, considered neutrality of a finish chosen to bridge the cognac leatherite and the natural cord without competing with either. A lounge chair designed in India, for the home that understands the most considered seats are always the ones where the craft of the making is as visible and as beautiful as the comfort of the sitting.
